Week 13

Beautiful weather this week, but really warm and dry for this time of year. They say it's driest March on record for Mississippi. So I guess we need the rain, but the sun has been so pretty it's hard to want to wish it away.

Reading: The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. It's good. A doctor delivers his wife's twins alone on a snowy night with only his nurse to aid him. He keeps and rears the boy, but gives the Down's Syndrome girl to the nurse to put in a home. He tells the wife the girl died at birth, and the nurse keeps the baby and runs away to start a new life with her secret. Very thought provoking.

I am working on the pattern I put down last week. So thats a good thing. Its going to be all in reds and blacks with white centers. Quite striking.

Trey, Karen, and Lauren are coming into town this afternoon for Super Bulldog Weekend. It will be nice to see them. Mom and Dad are not coming up like they originally planned, because mom is going to have to have surgery to repair a torn ligiment in her shoulder due to a fall 2 weeks ago. She is pretty bummed about it, I need to find someway to cheer her up.

Erin's birthday is tomorrow... So we are going to have a grillout with cake tonight at our house. Should be fun.

Most of the online research I did this week was on how to improve the front yard. I have learned how to smother the lawn between the trees that will allow me to add in a few plants and save Steve a lot of hassle in mowing. So I have the bare bones of a plan in my mind, but I need to try to get it onto paper so that maybe it'll be a little more real, and maybe I'll get working on it slowly.

Week 12

Well we came home from Gulf Wars SICK! some kind of awful chest clogging, cough intensive, bronchitis mess. Went to the Dr. and everything. (you know we were sick if that happened), but slowly we are feeling better and better. The weather is helping cause it is BEAUTIFUL around here this week. Couldn't ask for much prettier sunshine.

Reading: Gossamer Axe by Gael Baudino. One of those that I selected off of Paperback swap due to a review someone had written. It's kinda female driven fantasy fluff, but it's alright. Sidh touched harper has to form a heavy metal band to steal her lesbian lover back from the Elven King who captured her 200 years ago. Music = Magic.

I did find a neat pattern to try to make perhaps this weekend. http://www.overthemountain.org/projects/comm_serve07/service.htm
We'll see what I can get done with it.

GULF WAR WEEK !!!!

Gulf War XVI. Hard to believe really that there have been so many of them, and that they have all been so much fun. Folks online have been listing off their most memorable moments from the war so that seems like as good a way as any to sum it up.

  • Ladies night out scavanger hunt. Trixie turned me on to it, and we had an unmitigated blast! We won a palm tree. Drogo says you meet more people on site than you ever knew exsisted if you walk around with an inflatable palm tree.

  • Watching our campsite come back together as a household. Sitting around the community firepit, and hanging out in the afternoons.

  • Being the unofficial butterfly at the Gleann Abhann Social. Flitting in and out of folks conversations all night long.

  • Down Bearkiller Road! (I want the words)

  • Mustering and Marching with the Army!

  • Shopping with Margot.

  • Sir Uric's elvation!!!! Well deserved and such a surprise I screamed myself hoarse at court.

  • Watching Luther's face when they announced his upcoming knighting.

  • Everyone checking in on us to see if we felt better yet. We are just now getting over whatever it was we came down with at the war.

Week 10

Beautiful week! Next week is Gulf Wars! Very excited about that.

Reading: To Kill a Mockingbird. Its the pick this season for the Starkville Reads program. Dunno if I'll go to any of the discussions, but at least I'm getting around to reading the book this season (unlike the fall).

I worked up 2 new pages in the scrapbooking thing using the pictures that I swiped from Sam the other day at lunch... She brought the boys up last weekend on the way to see Miss Jamie. They are cute sometimes. :)

I didn't get everything done before Gulf Wars that I wanted to, but it'll be alright I'm sure.

Week 9

Just one day of lousy weather this week... which is very nice.

Reading: Califia's Daughters a dark future book by Leigh Richards. Read Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress as well, it was short.

Fighters Collegium was good, it was very stormy and windy, but not cold at least. Michelle taught me Naalbinding. I'm working on a hat! I'll post pictures when I'm done with it.

Didn't get much gulf wars prep done this week, and mom and dad are coming into town tonight so I dunno how much I'll get done this weekend either. It's only 8 days away now.

Salvation Army store was having a $10 a bag sale, so I picked up several 100% wool skirts and jackets to full up for applique. Now I just need to come up with a project to use them. I have orange, purple, black, cream, and a plaid.
