Week 8

I took a class on digital scrapbooking using photoshop. I was actually the only person that showed up for the class, but Bobbie did a great job of teaching it even though it was just little ole me. I made up a sample piece to post in this update. I can see myself having fun with this in the coming months especially after our disney trip in May.

As cold and nasty as it was last week, it has been just that pretty and sunny all week. Absolutely wonderful!

Headed to Fighter's Collegium this weekend.

Just about done with The Hammer of the Sun. Not really sure what I'll pick up next.

Found a neat blog or 2 that described the things they'd picked up at Thrift stores that day with photos and everything. That might be an interesting thing for future updates if I run out of other things to post here.

I did pick up an beautiful cream colored cloak this week. It is labled made in Italy from Alpaca and Wool. It's very warm and I'm looking forward to using it at Gulf Wars.

Something else I found online:

How many times have you heard someone say,
If I had money, I would do things my way.
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind.

When my life is ended, my time has run out
My trials and my loved ones, I'll leave them no doubt
But one thing's for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind

Satisfied Mind (By Rhodes & Hayes)(Starrite Music)

Something to remember when times get crazy and I think I want more than I need.

Week 7

Kinda a slow week. Bitterly cold though.

Reading: The Hammer of the Sun by Michael Scott Rohan. The last of the Winter of the World trilogy. Very good storytelling. I also have borrowed the Bookseller of Kabul from Lynne. It is supposed to be a good follow up to the Kite Runner. (Which I wasn't really fond of I'm afraid to admit)

Attempted to make one of Finna's apron dress and fouled it up royally. Oh well, maybe next time I'll read the instructions correctly.

Did our taxes. Didn't procrastinate as badly this year as last year. Didn't help the outcome though :(

Week 6

Week 6

Reading: almost done with the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Gives a awful view into Afghanistan under the Taliban, and a slightly more appealing view of the years before the Russian invasion.

I had to give the program at quilt guild due to the expected presenter becoming ill. So working from this page: http://flickr.com/photos/50342682@N00/tags/kanzashi/ , I made a bunch of samples and taught the guild how to do the basic folds for the petals.

I dyed a package of Onesies and posted them on the Etsy site. I hope they sell.

Headed to Winter Wonders this weekend, so that should be fun. We are also planning on stopping at Bass Proshop and getting me a pair of hiking boots too. Steve already has a pair and we arewanting to get out and about pretty quickly as soon as the weather turns pretty this spring.

Week 5

Week 5

Pretty good week all concerned. Very cold, but no winter precipitation to put up with anyway. Relativly productive at work.

The little event went well. We had 52 folks there. Hosted a free event at a free site... charged $3 for lunch and still ended making $11 in profit on the free event. pretty funny.

Working on a Green Tunic dress for gulf wars. May put the purple and yellow trim on it I think.

Reading: Children of Men by PD James. They just made a movie of it recently. They changed a few things of course. I'm enjoying the book.

OH! I made my first ever sale on Etsy. http://ratpatch.etsy.com/ A lady from Colorado bought 1 of my pillowcase pairs! I may have to come up with some more stuff to put up there afterall.

In honor of all my friends discussing finding other places to work and live in the coming year I'm going to paste in this poem I found on someones page.

God help us to change. To change
ourselves and to change our world.
To know the need for it. To deal with
the pain of it. To feel the joy of it.
To undertake the journey without
understanding the destination.
The art of gentle revolution.
