Week 26

Nope, I don't have half the stuff done this year that I'd liked to have gotten accomplished. But I guess that's the way it always is. But I have done pretty good keeping up with this record, and have gotten a lot of good books read :)

Speaking of books I'm reading Expecting Adam by Martha Beck right now. It's a good book telling the story of a woman who mothers a boy with Down's Syndrome. Jumps around a little before and after the birth and growth of Adam showing the changes that he wroght in their lives. One line that is used is that "Adam has Angels like dogs have fleas." I'm going to give this copy to Benji and Peyton when I'm done with it, I hope they like it too.

In the middle of baseball camp right now, have to work registration on Saturday so not going anywhere this weekend. Had to do it Sunday last weekend so didn't go to Birthday Bash in Alexandria, but I heard that it was a good time.

Doobie is not doing really well, and I'm working myself up to make the decision about his end that will have to come eventually. I don't want him to be in pain or suffer, and though his body is still in pretty ok shape (losing weight and getting sore) his mind is not good at all. He gets lost in the house and does a lot of walking in circles looking confused. It is very sad. I woke up at 3 am last night and wrote a tribute to him. I'll post it here later.

Week 25

First day of summer my foot.... its been over 90 for what seems like a month running already. but I guess thats a pretty good example of the human race needing to put a label on everything they encounter. I came across pictures on the web this week of someone from Australia's Christmas celebrations. All the kids in shorts and flipflops rather than cold weather gear; brings the fact that the seasons are opposite into focus. I guess the internet does make the world smaller.

Going to a quilt workshop this weekend to do the Buzz Saw block. I picked out some nice colors, I hope it turns out well.

Will lost his temper and probably his job Friday. I'm glad that none of my co-workers have ever made me that mad. It makes it a much better place to work when you think of it that way.

Reading: The Other Bolen Girl by Phillipa Gregory. Story of Mary & Anne Bolen and their interactions with Henry the 8th and the Tudor court. Very readable.

I baked a poundcake last weekend and have been eating on it all week. I probably shouldn't have since we haven't been to the gym all month, but I don't always do what I "Should."

Went out Friday night with steve and lynne and are going over the benji & peyton's to grill out Saturday... It's good to get to hang out with my friends for a little while longer. I still can't believe they are all leaving by the end of the summer. Makes me sad, but I'm going to do what I can to make the good times last as long as possible.

Week 24

Team is off in Omaha this week. First time in 9 years. So it's a very good thing.

Weather has been nice, but don't have anything planned for this weekend. Will go to Rena's baby shower and hit a few garage sales before grilling out on Saturday evening.

The guild meeting went pretty well, except the president didn't show up so I had to do the business part of the meeting as well as the program part. *sigh* oh well... I guess that's life. We are going to meet in July, but I don't have a program lined up for that yet. I guess I need to get cracking on that soon.

Reading: Calculating God by Robert J. Sawyer. Interesting premise of a race of aliens come to earth to see if God has been playing with evolution on this planet like he had been doing on their planet as well. Author came recommended from someone on the PopupPortal website.

I got the fabric for the guild challenge, but haven't actually started on anything yet. I've got a couple of ideas, but I'm not sure which direction it will go from here.

Week 23

The whirlwind class at MQA was not very exotic or exciting, but the teacher did a nice job of talking us through the processes needed to make a block that you cut apart to make 2 quiltblocks different enough that they belonged in 2 seperate quilts. Fran Cummings taught the class and did a great job.

ok, so not so quiet this week!

The team won the regional tournament in Talahassee, FL, and claimed the rights to host the Super Regional Tournament vs. Clemson. Over 13,000 people watched the game on Saturday (beating the record of over 12,000 from Friday) here at the stadium, that doesn't count the folks watching on the jumbotron in the Hump or on ESPN.

This place was a mad house all week. Repeat after me "No, I'm sorry you'll have to call the ticket office to purchase tickets. Yes, I realize that their number is still busy, but keep trying." Now, you could have done my job all week.

But it was a good kinda busy, and since they won the tournament and get to go to Omaha this week it'll all be worth it.

Reading: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Part detective novel part literary romp thru the best of english literature. Sam recommended it to me, and I'll recommend it to just about anyone else. I'm enjoying it alot.

Week 22

These pictures are from the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. We went hiking around there this weekend.

Pretty slow week. Team is off for the Regional Tournament, so I've got the place to myself. Got all the campers entered and letters printd and now I'm going to lay out a quilt in the conference room this afternoon :)

Reading: Ozark Trilogy by Suzette Haden Elgin. nice book, very easy to read Sci-fi.

Going to Jackson this weekend for the MQA June Gathering. I'm taking a class called Whirlwind. I spent the last week gathering the fabrics that I want to use in it, but not knowing what its going to look like, I really hope what I picked out will work.

Doobie is doing a little better, I'm still watering his food so he makes sure to get enough to drink, so he hasn't gotten dehydrated again. I'm afraid it's just old age; he might be getting senile. There is a medicine for it that is pretty expensive, so I'm going to first try him on Ginko and a couple of other things to see if we can keep it at a tolerable level.
